Crisil Ratings Seminar: NBFCs: Growth back in the limelight

Summary

Over the past few fiscals, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) have weathered multiple challenges. Yet they rebounded to the growth track in fiscal 2023. The momentum is expected to continue piggybacking resilient economic activity, stronger balance sheets in the form of higher liquidity, capital and provisioning buffers, and better asset quality.

Further, agility has allowed NBFCs to ride the retail credit-growth wave by diversifying across asset segments through both organic and partnership routes, even as they were quick to adopt digitalisation.

Growth, clearly, is back in the limelight.

At the same time, certain aspects are monitorables - continued intensity of competition from banks in the traditional asset classes, rising borrowing costs, which are impacting net interest margins, and asset quality in the unsecured segment. Amid this, NBFCs will also have to navigate greater regulatory scrutiny and compliance.

It is in this context that the 8th edition of the flagship Crisil Ratings Annual NBFC Seminar is being held.

The event offers a platform for business leaders, issuers, investors, policymakers and other market participants to discuss, deliberate and exchange perspectives on issues relevant to the growth and development of India's NBFC sector.

The presentations and panel discussions during the event will cover the following themes:

  • Growth prospects and the evolving business mix for NBFCs
  • Asset quality and outlook on profitability
  • Evolving trends in housing finance
  • Outlook on vehicle finance
  • Perspectives on mid-sized/digital lenders
